An untypical love problem

My name is Jane. I’m writing to you, because I have a really annoying situation with one of my friends. It all started two weeks ago, when I recieved a huge bunch of flowers with a bar of chocolate from an anonymous person. I had no idea who it was and how he or she got my address. However, I kept getting unexpected gifts and unwanted love letters. I started to be really scared and anxious about this subject. When I was about to call a private detective, I found out the secret admirer was one of my friends who I lost contact with long time ago! He found my address on my Facebook account. The matter is I still like him and it was nice to talk with him once again, because he is a wonderful person, BUT sadly I do not feel the same – I like him as a friend and I want our relationship like this. I told him in a kind way I don’t want to be his girlfriend, but it seems he won’t give up so fast. So, would you give me some advice about this subject, please? I really have no idea what I should do. I don’t want to lose a friend. However, I can’t imagine receiving gifts from a person I don’t love all the time. I look forward to receiving your reply.

Jane, 17

Structure of informal letter

The structure of informal letter is quite simple. First of all you need to remember not to place any adresses it is not needed. Usually you start the letter with some friendly words and with a sociable phrase for example: How are you?

In the main part of the letter you write about ordinary things like what changed or whats new. You can use common phrases and short forms. End the list with your signature.

For example you can use:

– Write soon

– Keep in touch

-Lots of love

-Hope to hear from you

-It was great to hear from you

-I’m sorry i haven’t written so long

My house

I live in a nice, comfortable house in Gogolin. It has two floors and a beautiful garden at the back of the house. On the ground floor there is a living room, kitchen, dining room and a bathroom. On the first floor I’ve got a room for guests, bathroom and four bedrooms. One bedroom has got a huge balcony with a nice view of the city. The hall, kitchen and guest room are mostly wooden. The house has got a lot of decorations and flowers. It is a beautiful house and I wouldn’t change it to any other.

Leon Trotsky (7 November 1879 – 21 August 1940),  was a Bolshevik revolutionary and Marxist theorist. Trotsky was one of the leaders of the Russian October Revolution, second only to Vladimir Lenin. During the early days of the Soviet Union, he served first as People’s Commissar for Foreign Affairs.

After leading a failed struggle of the Left Opposition against the policies and rise of Joseph Stalin in the 1920s and the increasing role of bureaucracy in the Soviet Union, Trotsky was successively removed from power, expelled from the Communist Party, deported from the Soviet Union and assassinated on Stalin’s orders. An early advocate of Red Army intervention against European fascism, Trotsky also opposed Stalin’s peace agreements with Adolf Hitler in the 1930s.

  • In Mexico in the late 1930s Trotsky meets Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera and André Breton who in 1938 writes Pour un art révolutionnaire indépendant (For an Independent Revolution in Art) and as the leader of Surrealism Breton befriends Trotsky. After his death in 1940 Breton denounces Trotsky for not successfully bringing forth the Revolution promised in Breton’s manifesto.
  • Trotsky was admired by Mexican muralist Diego Rivera, husband of Frida Kahlo. Rivera twice painted Trotsky’s face as part of a montage of Communist figures, in Communist Unity Panel (1933) .
  • Trotsky is a well regarded political figure within Bolano’s The Savage Detectives.
  • Trotsky is a major character in Robert Bolt’s play State of Revolution, which deals with the Russian Revolution and its aftermath.

After he was exiled and politically marginalised by Stalinism, Trotsky continued to argue for a united front against fascism in Germany and Spain. His articles on the united front represent an important part of his political legacy.

Drear Santa,

I want to ask You for a gift for my elder brother Damian. Last year he didn’t get anything and he was very sad because of it. I love him very much and i wish that this year he will be happy.

Damian has 19 years, he is tall and muscular. His eyes are green and hair are brown. In october he has started to study in Wrocław on Economical University. My brother is clever and responsible. Damian is interested in dancing and more precisely in Breakdance. Damian is dreaming about a laptop, he needs it in school and to communicate with his family.  Thats why I am asking You to bring him one.

Dear Santa if you will fulfill my wish and make him happy, I promise, that I will be more polite and learn more English.

Greeting and hugs
